Plantation Valuations
Forestry Economics Services periodically publishes tables that provide a guide to the value of South African standing plantations of Pine, Eucalyptus and Wattle (Acacia) trees of all ages within their normal commercial life span. The tables are widely recognised and used in the country for insurance purposes, establishing compensation values for trees damaged or expropriated, as a guide for forestry property values for sale, and in cases of litigation.
The table values are calculated using the internationally accepted Faustmann Formula. The various costs (establishment, tending, harvesting, indirect overheads etc.) which the formula requires, are derived from Forestry Economics Services’ national cost database.
In addition to the publication of the general Plantation Valuation Tables, Forestry Economics Services performs specific plantation valuations for timber growers and others who require valuations based on specific and discreet circumstances.
